Designing a Drone for Deliveries: Spring 2018 Thermal Fluids Experimentation (24-321)
For my Thermal Fluids Experimentation lab course, I worked with a team of two other mechanical engineers to design and analyze an airplane for cruise conditions that is capable of delivering an 8 lb object 50 miles away, given a specific airfoil. My work for this project has been using the software XFLR5 to calculate the lift and drag coefficients as a function of the angle of attack of a given airfoil, and conducting an analysis on our plane at fixed velocity.
Using the software XFLR5, I was able to calculate the lift and drag coefficients of our airfoil as a function of the angle of attack, as well as design the body of the plane to ensure flight.
